Each year, Mr. Hale from CCTC’s Advanced Manufacturing Program, and Mr. Hall, from the Construction Program, put forth a design challenge between themselves for the pinewood derby. This years challenge was “Star Wars”. Mr. Hale made a “Jabba the Hutt” car and Mr. Hall made a Land Speeder.
September is Recovery Month. SAMHSA, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration encourages focus on 4 major areas of recovery: HEALTH, HOME, PURPOSE, and COMMUNITY. These are the factors that all people need to live healthy, happy, independent lives and reach their full potential.
Today, the focus is HEALTH - to highlight the importance of wellbeing to substance use recovery. We can strive to be healthier and achieve our wellness goals by focusing on the following key goals:
1) We can overcome challenges related to mental health and substance use conditions
2) It is OK to reach out for help with substance use and mental health conditions
3) Making informed healthy choices can support our wellbeing
4) It's OK and important to reach out for help, especially if addiction or mental health conditions are affecting our relationships, school, or day-to-day life.

Students in Mrs. Wright’s cosmetology class are “rockin it”! Each student had to pass a practical skills assessment before they were permitted to begin their first haircut on their manikins. All students passed and are in the process of completing their first official haircut. Demonstrating safety and control of our industry tools is always our first priority. Congratulations to our junior cosmetology students! 🎀
CCTC’s Pinewood Derby Race Day. Advanced Manufacturing and Construction students designed and raced pinewood derby race cars today at CCTC. Students learned about design, friction reduction, and power tool safety. Borrowing the idea from Cub Scouts of America, CCTC has been racing for over 10 years. About five years back, we put the race under the Ultraviolet BLACK Lights, which gave the race a whole new dimension. This year’s design winner was Brian Able’s Bat Mobile and the fastest car was Juan “Omar” Marroquín Mendez. 🏎️🏎️
